Selective laser sintering (SLS) material: iglidur® i6

The iglidur i6 material was designed for laser sintering and was especially developed for manufacturing worm wheels for the food & packaging industry. The tests in the igus test laboratory showed a longer service life than for conventionally milled gears - e.g. POM - This significantly increases flexibility in the design of components, because the laser sintering process eliminates the need for tooling and therefore special parts can be manufactured efficiently with no minimum order quantity. Furthermore, iglidur i6 is ideal for snap-on connections due to the higher elongation at break.

When do I use it?

• When a food grade material is required
• For applications with sliding motion, especially for worm gears
• If a white base material is required for subsequent colouring

When not to use it?

• When an optically detectable material in blue colour is required (→ iglidur i6-BLUE)
• For applications under water or with high humidity (→ iglidur i8-ESD)
• If components with ESD specifications are required (→ iglidur i8-ESD or iglidur i9-ESD)
• In combination with anodised aluminium as a counter partner (→ iglidur i3)
• For gear applications (→ iglidur i3)
• If the application temperature is higher than 80°C in the long term (→ iglidur A350 or iglidur RW370)
